The 2022 edition’s victor The England men’s T20 World Cup squad for 2024 has been announced.
Returning to international cricket after an absence of almost a year, Jofra Archer has been named to England’s squad for the forthcoming ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2024.
He has been nursing an elbow injury that kept him out of action for nearly a year, and his last England appearance was in March of 2023.
Since his injury in a bizarre fish tank accident in 2021, Archer has had a rocky road to recovery, including stress fractures, chronic elbow pain, and even surgery.
Chris Jordan, an experienced all-rounder whose last international appearance was in September 2023, also managed to gain a spot on the England squad, despite his recent absence from the starting lineup.
The defending champions’ batting lineup will be headed by Jos Buttler, with Will Jacks, Phil Salt, and Jonny Bairstow vying for position in the top three. Ben Duckett and seasoned all-rounder Moeen Ali will provide some versatility to the team from the left side.
Adil Rashid will spearhead the spin attack with Tom Hartley at his side, while Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, and Sam Curran will supply the team’s lower-order punch.
In the England team, we have Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Jonathan Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Matt Wood.
For the next four-match Twenty20 International series against Pakistan, which starts on May 22, the same squad has been chosen. For the T20I series against Babar Azam’s team, all of the players who are presently a member of the Indian Premier League will be back in time.
Before their first match against Scotland on June 4 in Barbados, England will depart for the Caribbean on May 31. At the T20 World Cup, they are grouped with Australia, Namibia, Scotland, and Oman in Group B.
