In the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2024, an experienced Sri Lankan squad will be captained by all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga.
After being named Sri Lanka’s Twenty20 International captain in December of last year, Hasaranga will take charge of the squad at the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2024 in the United States and the West Indies. His deputy will be Charith Asalanka, a middle-order hitter.
Sri Lanka have put their faith in Angelo Mathews, a seasoned player who made a triumphant return to the Twenty20 International lineup in January after a nearly three-year sabbatical. This will be Mathews’ sixth appearance in the T20 World Cup; in 2014, he was a part of Sri Lanka’s winning team.

Among Sri Lanka’s current and previous captains, including limited overs skipper Dasun Shanaka, one-day international captain Kusal Mendis, and test captain Dhananjaya de Silva, there will be no shortage of leadership experience.
Sri Lanka have chosen a diverse roster of players with a variety of skills to ensure a well-rounded team. Among the spin-bowling all-rounders are Kamindu Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dunith Wellalage, and skipper Hasaranga himself. The team’s two reliable all-around pace bowlers are Mathews and Shanaka.
Sri Lanka’s pace attack, led by Dushmantha Chameera and Dilshan Madushanka, gets an extra boost from Matheesha Pathirana and Nuwan Thushara, whose slinging bowling action is reminiscent of Lasith Malinga.
Sri Lanka is part of Group D, which also includes Bangladesh, Nepal, South Africa, and the Netherlands. against June 3rd in New York, they take against South Africa in the T20 World Cup.
