Team Bangladesh for the 2024 Twenty20 World Cup

Bangladesh will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was selected captain for all formats earlier this year, at the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2024.

Bangladesh named their fifteen-player roster for next month’s major event following a convincing 4-1 triumph over Zimbabwe in the recently ended Twenty20 International home series.

Veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who had a nearly year-long absence from Twenty20 International cricket, is also a part of the team. Shakib made an impression by taking four wickets in the fourth match of Bangladesh’s final two Twenty20 Internationals against Zimbabwe, earning a spot in the team.

The fifteen-man squad that Bangladesh will take to the Twenty20 World Cup did not include any huge surprises, however youthful fast Tanzim Hasan Sakib was selected following his two matches against Zimbabwe.

After resting the 22-year-old for the last two matches against Zimbabwe, selectors brought him back into the lineup, along with left-arm fast Shoriful Islam. As backups, Hasan Mahmud and Afif Hossain Dhrubo will go to the competition.

Next month, in Dallas, Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka in their first match. The other teams in their Group are Nepal, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands.

According to Gazi Ashraf Hossain, chair of the BCB’s national selection panel, the team held off on making a decision regarding Saifuddin until after the Zimbabwe series.

Keeping Saifuddin on the team that was presented to the ICC on April 30 was our intention, according to Hossain. “We intended to watch and evaluate how he performed during the Zimbabwe series. However, Tanzim (Hasan Sakib) was ahead of Saifuddin when it came to what the team currently needed.

The two were almost entangled. The Tanzim team played Sri Lanka. He remained ahead because to his determination and hunger. In addition, he is a superb fielder. The only player to be changed from the roster we had previously submitted to ICC was Saifuddin.

Hossain stated that seasoned pacer Taskin Ahmed was selected despite worries about injuries.

Taskin is in the team because, according to the medical staff, he will be able to play again during the Twenty20 World Cup. If a replacement is required, we shall adhere to ICC policy. Later on, they can be completed. But I don’t believe Taskin can play in this month’s series against the United States.

According to Hossain, the squad’s goal is to go to the next round of the tournament and beyond.

The team’s advancement to the next round is something we’re hoping for. If we succeed in that, we will undoubtedly desire to advance.

A worry is the batting form. We need to put in a lot of effort to come back from this, and I’m hoping the batters play to their strengths.

In the Bangladeshi squad, we have Najmul Hossain Shanto at the helm, with Taskin Ahmed, Litton Das, Soumya Sarkar, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Shakib Al Hasan, Tawhid Hridoy, Jaker Ali Anik, Tanvir Islam, Shak Mahedi Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, and Tanzim Hasan Sakib also present. Reserves while traveling: Hasan Mahmud, Afif Hossain
