Dravid confirms departure from India team following T20 World Cup 2024

Rahul Dravid’s final assignment as India’s coach will be the campaign in the United States and the West Indies.

The current ICC Men’s T20 World Cup is Rahul Dravid’s final competition as the Indian team’s head coach, he has announced.

Dravid announced he will not be reapplying for the position at a press conference held in advance of India’s opening match against Ireland in New York. The BCCI had posted an advertisement for the position last month.

“It is going to be the last one that I am in charge of,” Dravid stated.

Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll be able to reapply given my schedule and where I am in life right now.

“This is the final one I will do. That being said, I don’t find the tournament’s significance to be any different.

“I enjoy my work here. In addition to like working with this team—a terrific group of guys to work with—I’ve really enjoyed coaching India. I think it’s a really special job to accomplish.”

“To be very honest, I think we’ve actually played really well in these World Cup tournaments,” Dravid stated.

“We have been quite constant when it comes to our consistency. reaching the first T20 tournament semi-final in Australia.

“The World Test Championship is a little different in that it consists of an entire cycle rather than just one competition, and to qualify for the final, players must do exceptionally well throughout the cycle.

“We had a fantastic run in the 50-over World Cup and advanced to the final. I believe we have been right up there with some of the top teams in these major events in terms of our consistency and the caliber of cricket we have played.”

We cannot claim that our performance in these tournaments has been subpar. Yes, in that one knockout game we most likely haven’t been able to reach the finish line.

“Hopefully, we perform well enough in cricket to regain those rankings. Then, to cross the finish line, perhaps play excellent cricket that day.

But it’s crucial to forget about it when you first begin these competitions. It is to genuinely consider returning to those roles. That’s sometimes just as difficult, in my opinion, as winning those games. As a group and as a team, all you can do is put yourselves in those situations where you are vying for glory.

“Our whole goal will be to try and get ourselves once again into a position where we give ourselves a chance to be able to win a tournament.”

India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign begins with a hat-trick of games at the Nassau County International Stadium in New York. The team’s opening game against Ireland is followed by two highly anticipated matchups against Pakistan and the tournament hosts, USA.

Dravid’s team is aiming for a position in the Second Round and the knockout rounds thereafter when they play Canada in their Group A campaign in Lauderhill.
